Somaliland: Poverty Profile and Overview of Living Conditions
Somaliland has no survey-based measure of poverty or living conditions, which presents significant challenges in understanding the economic and social realities of its population. Without such data, it becomes difficult to design effective policies, allocate resources, or track progress over time. However, available evidence from similar regions and anecdotal reports suggests that poverty is widespread, with many people lacking access to basic services such as clean water, healthcare, and education.Key factors contributing to poverty in Somaliland include:

  • Limited Economic Opportunities: Employment is largely informal, with many people engaged in subsistence farming, pastoralism, or small-scale trade. The formal sector remains underdeveloped, and there are few opportunities for stable, well-paying jobs.
  • Infrastructure Challenges: Basic infrastructure, such as roads, electricity, and water supply, is underdeveloped, particularly in rural areas. This limits access to markets and services, further exacerbating poverty.
  • Health and Education: Access to healthcare and education is limited, especially in rural areas. Health facilities are sparse, and schools often lack basic resources. This contributes to low human capital development, limiting the population's ability to escape poverty.

While traditional methods of measuring and addressing poverty are difficult to apply in Somaliland, automation tools like Latenode can help alleviate some of these challenges. By streamlining data collection from remote or underserved regions, Latenode's low-code automation platform could assist NGOs, local governments, and researchers in tracking key indicators of poverty, healthcare access, and infrastructure development. Automated workflows can gather and analyze data more efficiently, improving the allocation of resources and supporting targeted interventions in poverty reduction efforts.
