Monthly Consumer Price Index (July,2017)

Consumer Price Index-July-2017 The Central Statistics Department of the Ministry of National Planning & Development (MoNP&D), has released the Consumer Price Index (CPI) for the month of July 2017 (Base year 2012=100).
Highlights of CPI, July2017
1.1 Annual Inflation
The Annual Headline Inflation for the year ending July 2017 rise at 13.8 percent compared to the 12.2 percent recorded during the year ended Jun 2017.
The Annual Headline Inflation was high for Food Crops which rise to 14.3 percent for the year ending July 2017 compared to 6.0 percent recorded for the year ended Jun 2017. The driver of Annual Food Crops were Fruit (Class) that increased to 29.5 percent for the year ending July 2017 compared to the 22.9 percent registered during the year ended Jun 2017. In addition, Bread & Cereal (Class) that registered an 11.2 percent rise for the year ending July 2017 compared to the 10.6 percent recorded for the year ended Jun 2017.
The Annual Core Inflation also rise to 12.6 percent for the year ending July 2017 compared to the 12.1 percent recorded for the year ended Jun 2017. This was driven by the Services inflation that registered 1.7 percent for the year ending July 2017 compared to the minus 0.2 percent recorded during the year ended Jun 2017. Other Goods inflation increased to 15.4 percent for the year ending July 2017 compared 15.3 percent recorded for the year ended Jun 2017.
In addition, the Annual Inflation Energy, Fuels and Utilities (EFU) increased to 25.8 percent for the year ending July 2017 compared to the 22.3 percent recorded during the year ended Jun 2017. The drivers were Annual Inflation for Charcoal inflation that recorded 15.6 percent for the year ending July 2017 compared to 7.3 percent recorded for the year ended Jun 2017. In addition, were Electricity charges inflation rise to 50.0 percent for the year ending July 2017 compared to 39.9 percent recorded in Jun 2017.
1.2 Monthly Inflation
The Monthly Headline Inflation for July 2017 declined by 1.1 percent from 3.0 percent recorded in Jun 2017. This was due to Monthly Food Crop and related items Inflation that dropped 0.3 percent during July 2017 from 3.4 percent recorded in Jun 2017.Similarly the EFU Inflation decline by 3.2 percent in July 2017 where 4.6 percent recorded in Jun 2017. However, the Monthly Services Inflation decreased by 1.2 percent in July 2017 which 1.3 percent recorded during Jun 2017.
