SOMALILAND CONSUMER PRICE INDEX

The Central Statistics Department of the Ministry of National Planning & Development (MoNP&D), has released the Consumer Price Index (CPI) for the month of September 2017 (Base year 2012=100).

Highlights of CPI, October. 2017

1. Annual Inflation
The Annual Headline Inflation for the year ending October 2017 decline at 19.6percent compared to the 19.9 percent recorded during the year ended September2017.

The Annual Food Crops Inflation which dropped to 26.9 percent for the year ending October 2017compared to 33.5 percent recorded for the year ended September 2017. The driver of Annual Food Crops Inflation were Vegetables that decline to 21.1 percent for the year ending October 2017 compared to the 30.9 percent registered during the year ended September 2017. In addition, Fruit inflation registered a 35.4 percent decreased for the year ending October 2017 compared to the 37.3 percent recorded for the year ended September 2017.

The Annual Core Inflation also rose to 19.1 percent for the year ending October 2017 compared to the 17.4 percent recorded for the year ended September 2017. This was driven by the Tobacco inflation that registered 52.2 percent raised the ending October 2017 compared to the 50.3 percent recorded during the year ended September 2017. Other goods inflation increase to 21.9 percent for the year ending October 2017 compared to the 20.0 percent recorded for the year ended September 2017.

In addition, the Annual Energy, Fuels and Utilities (EFU) Inflation dropped to 15.0 percent for the year ending October 2017 compared to the 30.3percent recorded during the year ended September 2017. The drivers were Petrol Annual inflation that decline 23.1 percent for the year ending October 2017 compared to 60.0 percent recorded for the year ended September 2017.In addition, were Diesel inflation that rose to 27.3 percent for the year ending October 2017 compared to 55.6 percent recorded in September 2017.

2. Monthly Inflation
The Monthly Headline Inflation for October 2017decline by1.8 percent compare 4.0 percent recorded in September 2017. Core monthly inflation that slight decline1.3 percent during October 2017 compared the 3.6 percent recorded in September2017. Similarly, the Food crop & related items Inflation dropped by 3.4 percent in October 2017 from the 9.6 percent recorded in September 2017. However, the Monthly Energy Fuel & utilities Inflation rose by 4.4 percent for the month of October 2017 from the 0.2 percent recorded during September 2017.
