SOMALI LAND CONSUMER PRICE INDEX

The Central Statistics Department of the Ministry of Planning & National Development (MoPND), has released the Consumer Price Index (CPI) for the Month of October 2019 (Base year 2012=100).

Highlights of CPI, October 2019.

1. Annual Inflation

The Annual Headline Inflation for the year ending of October 2019 increased at 4.1 percent compared to the 4.0 percent recorded during the year ended September 2019.

Annual Food Inflation of year ending October 2019 increased at 8.8 percent compared 8.4 percent recorded during the year ending September 2019. The Annual Food Crops Inflation increased 10.9 percent for the year ending October 2019 compared to 10.5 percent recorded during the year ended September 2019. The drivers of changes were Mangoes, avocado pea increase to 8.5 percent for the year ending October 2019 compared to 7.1 percent registered the year ending September 2019. Melon inflation registered an increase 27.6 percent for the year ending October 2019 compared to the 26.7 percent recorded for the year ended September 2019.Similarly, Garlic (Toon) inflation increased 18.4 percent for the ending year ending October 2019 compared to the 15.7 percent for the year ended September 2019. In addition, the Green Pepper inflation increased 6.6 percent for the ending year ending October 2019 compared to 5.0 percent for the year ended September 2019.

The Annual Energy Inflation, Fuels and Utilities (EFU) decreased to minus 6.5 percent for the year ending October 2019 compared minus 1.4 percent recorded at the year ended September 2019.

  1. Monthly Inflation

The Monthly Headline Inflation for the year ending October 2019 increased at 0.5 percent compared to the 0.3 percent recorded during September 2019. Monthly Food Inflation of October 2019 decreased at 1.3 percent compared 2.0 percent recorded in during September 2019. Food Crop & Related items monthly Inflation decreased at 1.5 percent in October 2019 compared to 2.0 percent recorded in September 2019. Energy Fuel & utilities Inflation decreased by minus 2.3 percent for the month of October 2019 compared to minus 1.5 percent recorded during September 2019.
