Consumer Price Index (November,2017)

CPI-Nov-2017The Central Statistics Department of the Ministry of National Planning & Development (MoNP&D), has released the Consumer Price Index (CPI) for the month of November 2017 (Base year 2012=100).

Highlights of CPI, November. 2017

1. Annual Inflation
The Annual Headline Inflation for the year ending November2017decline at 19.4 percent compared to the 19.6 percent recorded during the year ended October2017.

The Annual Food Crops Inflation which increased to 31.1 percent for the year ending November2017compared to 26.9 percent recorded for the year ended October 2017. The driver of Annual Food Crops Inflation were Fruit that slight rose to 41.0 percent for the year ending November 2017 compared to the 35.4 percent registered during the year ended October 2017. In addition, Meat inflation registered a 34.5 percent increased for the year ending November 2017 compared to the 28.5 percent recorded for the year ended October 2017.

The Annual Core Inflation also decline to 18.0percent for the year ending November 2017 compared to the 19.1percent recorded for the year ended October 2017. This was driven by the Narcotics inflation that registered 19.0percent dropped the ending November 2017 compared to the 53.0percent recorded during the year ended October 2017. Similarly, other goods inflation decline to 18.8percent for the year ending November 2017 compared to the 21.9 percent recorded for the year ended October 2017.

In addition, the Annual Energy, Fuels and Utilities (EFU) Inflation increased to 18.5percent for the year endingNovember2017 compared to the 15.0 percent recorded during the year ended October2017. The drivers were Charcoal Annual inflation that slightly rose 16.0percentfor the year ending November 2017 compared to 3.4percentrecorded for the year ended October 2017.In addition, were Diesel inflation that rose to 40.0percent for the year ending November 2017 compared to 27.3percent recorded in September 2017.

2. Monthly Inflation
The Monthly Headline Inflation for November 2017decline by 0.1 percent compare1.8 percent recorded in October 2017. Core monthly inflation that slight decline 0.3percent during November2017 compared the 1.3percent recorded in October 2017. Similarly, the Food crop & related items Inflation dropped by minus 1.3percent in November 2017 from the 3.4 percent recorded in October 2017. However, the Monthly Energy Fuel & utilities Inflation stable remaining by 4.4percent for the month of November 2017 from the 4.4percent recorded during October 2017.
