SOMALILAND CONSUMER PRICE INDEX

The Central Statistics Department of the Ministry of Planning &National Development (MoP&ND), has released the Consumer Price Index (CPI) for the month of June 2018 (Base year 2012=100).

Highlights of CPI, June 2018.

1.    Annual Inflation

The Annual Headline Inflation for the year ending June 2018 decline at 15.0 percent compared to the 17.6 percent recorded during the year ended June 2018.

The Annual Food Crops Inflation which decline to 17.0 percent for the year ending June 2018 compared to 20.1 percent recorded for the year ended May 2018. The driver of Annual Food Crops Inflation were Carrots (Dabacasaha) decline to10.6 percent for the year ending June 2018 compared to the 21.6 percent registered during the year ended May 2018. In addition, Peas, dry inflation registered a minus 33.6 percent decreased for the year ending June 2018 compared to the minus 26.8 percent recorded for the year ended May 2018.Similarly, mainly due the Dates inflation a decline 10.9 percent for the ending year ending June 2018 compared to 16.2 percent recorded for year ended May 2018.

The Annual Core Inflation also significance decline to 14.3 percent for the year ending June 2018 compared to the 16.5 percent recorded for the year ended May 2018. This was driven by the Bread and cereals inflation that registered 8.0 percent decline the ending June 2018 compared to 10.0 percent recorded during the year ended May 2018. In addition Vegetables inflation decline to 17.7 percent for the year ending June 2018 compared to the 21.3 percent recorded for the year ended May 2018. Similarly, Milk, cheese and eggs inflation decline to 7.7 percent for the year ending June 2018 compared to the 10.4 percent recorded for the year ended May 2018.

In addition, the Annual Energy Inflation, Fuels and Utilities (EFU) decline to 18.8 percent for the year ending June 2018 compared to the 25.5 percent recorded during the year ended May 2018. The drivers were Sewage collection Annual inflation that decrease 17.0 percent for the year ending June 2018 compared to 20.9 percent recorded for the year ended May 2018.In addition, the Petrol inflation that decreases to 57.1 percent for the year ending June 2018 compared to 71.4 percent recorded in May 2018. Similarly, the Diesel Inflation decreases by 27.7 percent in June 2018 compared 33.3 percent recorded in May 2018.

  1. Monthly Inflation

The Monthly Headline Inflation for June 2018 decline by 0.78 percent compared 2.2 percent recorded in May 2018. Food crop & related items monthly Inflation decrease by 0.7 percent in June 2018 compared 3.0 percent recorded in May 2018. While Core monthly inflation that decline 0.8 percent during June 2018 compared the 1.3 percent recorded in May 2018. However, the Monthly Energy Fuel & utilities Inflation decrease by 0.3 percent for the month of June 2018 compared 10.4 percent recorded during May 2018.
