SOMALILAND CONSUMER PRICE INDEX

The Central Statistics Department of the Ministry of Planning &National Development (MoP&ND), has released the Consumer Price Index (CPI) for the month of July2018 (Base year 2012=100).

Highlights of CPI, July2018.

1.    Annual Inflation

The Annual Headline Inflation for the year ending June 2018 decline at 13.6 percent compared to the 15.1 percent recorded during the year ended July 2018.

The Annual Food Crops Inflation which decline to 10.1 percent for the year ending July 2018 compared to 17.0 percent recorded for the year ended Jun 2018. The driver of Annual Food Crops Inflation were Garlic (Toon) decline to minus 0.2 percent for the year ending July 2018 compared to the 7.8 percent registered during the year ended June 2018. In addition, Onions inflation registered decline to12.8 percent for the year ending July 2018 compared to the 26.2 percent recorded for the year ended Jun 2018.Similarly, mainly due the Potatoes inflation a decline 12.9 percent for the ending year ending July 2018 compared to 19.2 percent recorded for year ended Jun 2018.

The Annual Core Inflation also decline to 13.9 percent for the year ending July 2018 compared to the 14.3 percent recorded for the year ended Jun 2018. This was driven by the Oil and Fats inflation that registered 18.1 percent decline the ending July 2018 compared to 20.8 percent recorded during the year ended Jun 2018. In addition Vegetables inflation decline to12.1percent for the year ending July 2018 compared to the 17.7 percent recorded for the year ended June 2018.Similarly, Fruits inflation decline to 7.7 percent for the year ending July 2018 compared to the 16.2 percent recorded for the year ended Jun 2018.

In addition, the Annual Energy Inflation, Fuels and Utilities (EFU) decline to 16.3 percent for the year ending July 2018 compared to the 20.5 percent recorded during the year ended Jun 2018. The drivers were Gas (natural and liquefied) Annual inflation that decrease 23.9 percent for the year ending July 2018 compared to 29.4 percent recorded for the year ended June 2018.In addition, the Petrol inflation that decreases to 35.7 percent for the year ending July 2018 compared to 57.1 percent recorded in Jun 2018. Similarly, the Diesel Inflation decrease by 23.1 percent in July 2018 compared 27.7 percent recorded in Jun 2018.

  1. Monthly Inflation

The Monthly Headline Inflation for July 2018 decline by minus -0.2 percent compared 0.8 percent recorded in Jun 2018. Food crop & related items monthly Inflation decrease by minus 5.7 percent in July 2018 compared 0.7 percent recorded in Jun 2018. In addition the Monthly Energy Fuel & utilities Inflation decrease by minus 0.6 percent for the month of July 2018 compared 0.3 percent recorded during Jun 2018. Similarly, the Core monthly inflation that decline 0.5 percent during July 2018 compared the 0.8 percent recorded in June 2018.
