Consumer Price Index (January, 2018)

Annual inflation: The Annual Headline Inflation for the year ending January 2018 decline at 18.9 percent compared to the 18.4 percent recorded during the year ended January 2018.

The Annual Food Crops Inflation which increased to 32.7 percent for the year ending January 2018 compared to 32.1 percent recorded for the year ended January 2018. The driver of  Annual Food Crops Inflation were Sugar, jam, honey, chocolate, and confectionery increase to 27.3 percent for the year ending January 2018 compared to the 24.7 percent registered during the year ended January 2018. In addition, Food Products n.e.c. inflation registered an 17.5 percent increased for the year ending January 2018 compared to the minus 15.4 percent recorded for the year ended January 2018.

 

The Annual Core Inflation also decline to 17.0 percent for the year ending January2018 compared to the 16.3 percent recorded for the year ended January 2018. This was driven by the Cleaning, Repair and Hire of Clothing inflation that registered 30.1 percent dropped the ending January 2018 compared to the 17.4 percent recorded during the year ended January 2018. Similarly, Clothing Materials inflation decline to 22.1 percent for the year ending January 2018 compared to the 19.9 percent recorded for the year ended January 2018.

 

In addition, the Annual Energy, Fuels and Utilities (EFU) Inflation decreased to 22.2 percent for the year ending January 2018 compared to the 23.5 percent recorded during the year ended January 2018. The drivers were Sewage Collection Annual inflation that significant decrease 18.7 percent for the year ending January 2018 compared to 27.8 percent recorded for the year ended January 2018. In addition, was Solid fuels inflation that rose to 25.0 percent for the year ending January 2018 compared to 28.2 percent recorded in January 2018.

  1. Monthly Inflation

The Monthly Headline Inflation for January 2018 increased by 0.8 percent compared 0.6 percent recorded in January 2018. Core monthly inflation that rose 1.0 percent during January 2018 compared the 0.4 percent recorded in January 2018. Similarly, the Food crop & related items Inflation decreased by 0.3 percent in January 2018 compared 0.7 percent recorded in January 2018. However, the Monthly Energy Fuel & utilities Inflation decline by minus 0.3 percent for the month of January 2018 compared 2.7 percent recorded during January 2018.CPI Report Jan-2018
