SOMALILAND CONSUMER PRICE INDEX

The Central Statistics Department of the Ministry of Planning & National Development (MoPND), has released the Consumer Price Index (CPI) for the Month of February 2020 (Base year 2012=100).
Highlights of CPI, February 2020.
1. Annual Inflation
The Annual Headline Inflation for the year ending of February 2020 was 5.0 percent compared to the 4.6 percent recorded for the year ended January 2020.
Annual Food Inflation of year ending February 2020 increased at 9.7 percent compared 9.4 percent recorded in year ended January 2020.

Annual inflation of Food Crops Increased at 9.3 percent for the year ending February 2020 compared to 7.4 percent recorded for the year ended January 2020. The change was attributed by Guavas which increased at 21.3 percent for the year ending February 2020 compared to 13.6 percent registered for the year ending January 2020. Meanwhile, the Cabbages (Fresh or Chilled) inflation registered 20.2 percent for the year ending February 2020 compared to the 18.2 percent recorded for the year ended January 2020. Similarly, Melon recorded at 43.7 percent for the year ending February 2020 compared to the 39.7percent for the year ended January 2019. In addition, the Garlic (Toon) inflation increased at 12.0 percent for the ending year ending February 2020 compared to 8.9 percent for the year ended January 2020.
The Annual Energy Inflation, Fuels and Utilities (EFU) increased at (2.3) percent for the year ending February 2020 compared to (3.2) percent recorded for the year ended January 2020. The drivers were Water Private Supplier’s inflation was increased at 6.9 percent for the year ending February 2020 compared to 4.1 percent recorded for the year ended January 2020. The Charges – Use of Electricity inflation increased at (10.2) percent for the year ending February 2020 compared to (10.7) percent recorded for the year ended January 2020.
2. Monthly Inflation

The Monthly Headline Inflation for February 2020 increased at 0.6 percent compared to the 0.5 percent recorded January 2019.

Monthly Food Inflation of February 2020 decreased at 0.4 percent compared 0.9 percent recorded in January 2020.
Food Crop & Related items monthly Inflation decreased at 1.5 percent in February 2020 compared to 3.8 percent recorded in January 2020, In addition Core monthly inflation increased at 0.5 percent during February 2020 compared to 0.1 percent recorded in January 2020.Similarly, the Monthly Energy Fuel & utilities Inflation decreased at 0.1 percent for the month of February 2020 compared to 0.5 percent recorded during January 2020.
